Spotify functionality may be added to Google’s Gemini AI soon.
The new integration and its features were spotted in an Android teardown by the Android leaker known as AssembleDebug, Android Authority reports. The Gemini Spotify connection feature can play songs by using “@spotify” followed by a request to play a specific song.
Once enabled, the new feature gives Gemini access to your Spotify playlists, history, and preferences, which means Gemini could bring up your Spotify data in future conversations with the AI. You must consent to the integration’s terms to use it, meaning you also consent to share unspecified “relevant info” and Gemini conversations with Spotify.
The songs don’t seem to be pulled up very fast, however, according to a video showing the integration in action. It’s currently unclear when this integration might launch—and whether the experience will be available for free users or only paying Spotify Premium subscribers.
Given the advanced stage of its UX design, it’s very possible this integration could launch soon. In May, Google launched a YouTube Music integration for Gemini. News of a Spotify Gemini integration first leaked in June when AssembleDebug uncovered strings of code referencing it.
