Best Smart Home Security Deals for August 2024

Even though crime rates continue to drop, protecting your home is sadly something that we still have to do. Being able to monitor your property day and night can make a huge difference on the rare chance that something does happen. With today’s smart home systems, it’s cheap and easy to add a camera or two (or more) featuring motion sensing, night vision, object and human detection, and other AI-powered skills. You can embed it in a smart doorbell, mount it on walls, ceilings or shelves, and connect them all into a user-friendly network that you can monitor from your phone. Here are the deepest home security discounts we found for July.

Some security systems require a paid subscription to store and access the videos your cameras record beyond a certain amount of time. Others require a hub unit to control the cameras. Both types typically allow you to access your video feeds in real time via your phone, computer or other smart display. We also like cameras that allow for two-way audio interaction with whoever’s on the other side of the lens, and having a spotlight function is a nice option as well. The main choice you’ll need to make with your smart doorbell is whether or not you need a wired or wireless option; from there, cameras and additional features will vary.

Security Camera Deals

Swann is a somewhat lesser-known name in home security, but they produce high-quality hardware that’s competitive or even exceeds some of the major brands. Case in point, this day/night 4K camera that just got a deep discount to under a hundred bucks. Equipped with a 8MP PoE Cat5e system, it captures crisp, clear video and the LED spotlights give you full color at night up to 115 feet. A pre-installed 2TB SSD gives you massive amounts of recording storage, and motion detection sends alerts right to a phone app.

For a few more bucks, Eufy gives you more features and flexibility for your home security setup. They’re rechargeable, for one, and between the full field of view, infrared night vision, and 1080p resolution, the footage you get is pretty detailed. They also deliver smart notifications like motion alerts that can tell the difference between the neighborhood cat and a delivery driver arriving at your doorstep (and with two-way audio you can interact with them as well). This package also includes a home hub for months of video storage with no monthly fee.

Video Doorbell Deals

You’re not going to beat this price for a video doorbell, and thankfully the Blink Smart WiFi is a capable little model even for $35. In our review, we said that “we like the option to set it up in a wired or wireless configuration, as well as the ability to store recordings both locally and in the cloud.” The Sync Module is necessary to connect it to Blink’s online services, which can send video to a connected device for free as well as store it with a monthly subscription. This is absolutely one of the most affordable video doorbells on the market at this price.

Google’s Nest video doorbell is a no-frills entry into the home security space, with exceptional object recognition and crisp, clear video both day and night. In our review, we said that it “couldn’t be easier to install,” taking just a few minutes with simple hand tools and the free Nest app. The two-way speaker and microphone work effectively, and you can store video for up to three hours without a subscription. Our only criticism of the unit was the sticker price, so Amazon delivering a 39% discount handles that.

Security System Deals

We gave an Editors’ Choice award to SimpliSafe’s flexible and expandable home security system, and in our review we said that it “a seamless system that succeeds quite well at what it sets out to do—secure your home simply and flexibly, letting you monitor everything remotely with (or without) an affordable monthly plan.” It retails in a bunch of configurations, but for a small home this package, which also boasts a $160 discount, is the way to go. It comes with four entry sensors, two cameras, a base station and keypad control. It’s a breeze to set up and works flawlessly.

If budget’s tight but home safety is still a concern, this solid $60 price drop on an entry-level Eufy setup is hard to beat. This package comes with a pair of entry sensors for doors or windows, as well as an infrared motion sensor to detect unauthorized people anywhere you want to set it up. It all links wirelessly to the HomeBase unit, which communicates to the keypad as well as the Eufy Security app to keep you apprised on what’s going on. There’s also no subscription cost involved to use the hardware, which is nice. Check out how it lines up in our list of the best home security systems.
